Haese Mathematics
Haese Mathematics, formerly Haese & Harris Publications, is a family-owned publishing company specialising in Mathematics textbooks and accompanying software for schools and students.
The business began in 1979 when classroom teachers Bob and Sandra Haese, together with Kim Harris, started work on their first textbooks. These books were written for South Australian schools, and were typed on a typewriter with hand drawn diagrams. Modest beginnings, but teachers were quick to recognise the quality of the content in these early, unpretentious publications. Second editions were published in the mid-1980s, and 3rd editions followed in the early 1990s. Some of these same books are now in their sixth editions. In 2004, we launched new textbooks for the IB Diploma Mathematics courses. We were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to our books from teachers in 2000 schools spread across 120 different countries around the world. As a result, in 2008 we extended our IB series to cover the Middle Years Programme. We continue to write new editions of books in these series as the curriculum frameworks are revised. Worked solutions are available at most levels. In 2013 and 2014 we published new editions of all Mathematics for the International Student books, as well as adding a range of textbooks covering HL Options and the Further Mathematics HL course. In 2009 we published a book for the new course ‘Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics (0607) Extended’. This was followed by a book for the Core course, and in 2014 we published another book addressing the Cambridge Additional Mathematics (4037) course. In 2010, Haese Mathematics revolutionised test and worksheet generation with the INFINITY: Test and Homework Generator. INFINITY uses cutting edge artificial intelligence to dynamically generate questions and fully worked solutions. It provides teachers with an almost infinite variety of questions for everyday exercises in class, for homework, or formal tests and exams. When the Australian government introduced a uniform Australian Curriculum in 2010, Haese Mathematics responded. The Mathematics for Australia series was launched in 2011 with a textbook and worked solutions for Year 7 students. The series now covers Years 5 to 10, with worked solutions and homework books available at most levels. Books for Years 11 and 12 in this series are currently in production. Our most recent development is the introduction of the Snowflake online learning platform, launched in 2014. Snowflake allows access to our textbooks on a wide range of platforms, including mobile devices. For laptop and desktop uses, this includes valuable student support materials such as recorded, step-by-step explanations of problems, animated demonstrations of mathematical concepts, and more readily accessible updates to both books and software. Future updates to the learning platform will include the ability to share notes and annotations within a class. The outstanding characteristic of our company is an unrelenting commitment to produce the best possible resources for mathematics education in schools. We are great believers in the value of global education and its importance in producing a more peaceful world. To this end, in 2013 we began sponsoring the Central Asia Institute and its mission to provide schools in areas lacking infrastructure. At the same time we also wish to acknowledge elite students and encourage their further academic development. We are therefore proud to be sponsors of the North East Asia Mathematics Competition since 2014, and the High Four Mathematics competition since 2015.
